“A Matter of Balance” is an award-winning workshop to help participants reduce their fear of falling and improve stability of balance. The course meets weekly for 8 consecutive weeks, and each session lasts 2 hours. Participants must attend at least five of the eight classes to graduate. The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day provides a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications. Typically held at the Amphitheater at Oak Point Park in Plano, TX, the BT5K Breakthrough for Brain Tumors Run & Walk is the ABTA’s national signature fundraising event, taking place in cities coast to coast. Your participation allows the ABTA to provide vital brain tumor resources to patients and their families, fund promising research studies, and conduct nationwide brain tumor educational programs. Brain tumor advocacy advances in the past decade have significantly improved research funding and patient care for our community. Adults of all ages are invited to attend the annual Plano Senior Information & Wellness Fair from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22, at Sam Johnson Recreation Center for Adults 50+. This come-and-go event provides a wealth of information for those of retirement and pre-retirement age. Visitors receive free health screenings and take home information about a multitude of services available in the area. The fair is free and open to everyone. Tammy Tyree is an acute care nurse practitioner with 32 years of experience in nursing. She graduated with a diploma in nursing in 1991, a BSN from Pennsylvania State in 1999, an MSN and Adult Acute Care NP from Arizona State University in 2002, and finally a DNP from Penn State in May 2021. Her background as a registered nurse is in neuro/trauma intensive care, and she has worked in neurosurgery as an NP for 22 years. She has worked clinically with Dr. Peter Nakaji as a nurse practitioner in neurosurgery at Banner University Medical Center in Phoenix since 2007 and teaches full time at Arizona State University in the Doctor of Nursing Practice program. She has practiced alongside Dr. Nakaji in inpatient, outpatient, and operating room settings and has worked closely clinically with the cofounders of GammaTile, including Dr. Brachman, Dr. McBride, Dr. Youssef, Terry Thomas RN, and of course, Dr. Nakaji. She was able to attend surgeries and observe during the development of GammaTile when prototypes were being trialed. She was able to observe several dozen GammaTile cases during their development and now, years later since the tiles have been perfected and after obtaining training as an RNFA, she has been able to be involved in the surgeries and function as a first assist during Gamma Tile cases. Tammy will be joined by Ken Fox, Territory Manager for GT Medical Technologies, Inc.

Each year on the third Wednesday of July, we shine a light on glioblastoma (GBM), the most common, complex, treatment-resistant, and deadliest type of brain cancer. The Bluebonnet Retreat offers, at no charge, a unique experience for adult cancer patients. During the three-day, two-night camp, attendees are provided a creative, educational atmosphere of support with a focus on wellness. The retreat is a special project of Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Hurst-Euless-Bedford and is funded through donations. Ambulatory adults age 18 or older who have been diagnosed with cancer within the past five years are invited to attend. More information can be found here.
