Chronic Disease Self-Management Workshop

Stanford University’s Chronic Disease Self-Management Workshop is a free six-week course for adults experiencing chronic health conditions such as hypertension, arthritis, heart disease, stroke, lung disease, chronic pain, or diabetes. The Bluebonnet Retreat

The Bluebonnet Retreat offers, at no charge, a unique experience for adult cancer patients. During the three-day, two-night camp, attendees are provided a creative, educational atmosphere of support with a focus on wellness. The retreat is a special project of Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Hurst-Euless-Bedford and is funded through donations. Ambulatory adults age 18 or older who have been diagnosed with cancer within the past five years are invited to attend. The retreat is held each year in the fall and spring. Attendance is limited to 24 and first time campers receive priority. More information about the camp and application process can be found here.

"A Matter of Balance" Workshop

“A Matter of Balance” is an award-winning workshop to help participants reduce their fear of falling and improve stability of balance. The course meets weekly for 8 consecutive weeks, and each session lasts 2 hours.  Participants must attend at least five of the eight classes to graduate. Join us to raise money for brain cancer research.

Head for the Cure is dedicated to raising hope, awareness, and funding in the fight against brain cancer. Our 5K events are not only successful fundraisers, but unique tributes to those who are fighting brain cancer and those who have lost their battles. Their memories carry on through the teams that are formed around them, and these teams return year after year to celebrate their legacies. Funds raised from the event benefit the Brain Tumor Trials Collaborative (BTTC) and UT Southwestern.

American Brian Tumor Society Webinar
"Securing your care preferences when making end of life decisions"

The American Brain Tumor Society (ABTA) will be offering this free educational webinar series be led by Celeste Gallati, MBA, MILR and Randi Belisomo, MSJ, DBe, of Life Matters Media. Following the presentation, participants will have the opportunity to ask questions in an interactive Q&A format. The presentation will touch on: 1) outlining components of a comprehensive advance care plan; 2) assisting in identification of goals and values that need to be communicated to loved ones and medical providers; and 3) translating, framing and maintaining advance directives. Cancer Support Community North Texas Events

June marks the one year anniversary of former Vice President Joe Biden’s Cancer Moonshot Initiative.  In celebration of this effort the Cancer Support Community North Texas is hosting a morning panel called The Business, Breakthroughs and Future of Cancer Care and an evening event (including book signing) at Southern Methodist University with Dr. Lucy Kalanithi, the widow of the late Dr. Paul Kalanithi, author of the #1 New York Times bestselling memoir, When Breath Becomes Air, for which she wrote the epilogue. Both events focus on the collaborative and comprehensive care patients need during their cancer journey.
